The New York Jets have big problems up front on both sides of the ball. The defensive line can't put enough pressure on quarterbacks or stop the run, while the offensive line is having trouble protecting Mark Sanchez and consistently opening holes for the running game. Once considered among the Jets' top strengths, the lines are suddenly suspect.
New England's holes on the defensive line were all too apparent in a preseason loss that was full of problems.
Sione Pouha remembers being impressed after watching highlights after the New York Jets drafted Muhammad Wilkerson in the first round. Big. Strong. Athletic. Seemed to be a pretty good fit for the Jets' defensive line. Then, Pouha got to meet Wilkerson and, well, the film didn't lie. "He has tons of ability, man," Pouha said Wednesday.
The New York Jets went on the offensive during the draft's final day. After beefing up their defensive line in the first few rounds, the Jets focused on the other side of the ball Saturday by taking offensive players with their four remaining picks. "It is funny when you look at the draft, the first two years, we only took one defensive player," coach Rex Ryan said.
The emphasis on defense in the NFL remains on hammering the quarterback and, while the 2011 draft is undeniably deep on the defensive line, some scouts question where the sacks will come from in the rookie class. "You always want the 'rush guy' if you can get him, and...
This year's defensive line class could go down as one of the strongest in draft history, starting with the...

Braylon Edwards is coming on strong, just in time for the post-season.

"Braylon, the last couple of weeks, has been awesome," Jets' offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday, "just playing fast, jumping in like he did late in the year [in 2009] on scout team and he just looks like he can't get enough right now.

"I think he's hitting his stride at just the right time," Schottenheimer added.

With the playoffs just around the corner. Edwards has 14 receptions for 178 yards in the last two games and could be poised for a big post-season. That's something he didn't have a chance at in his first four seasons in the NFL, as Cleveland didn't make the playoffs in any of those seasons.

"To go from never making it to [going] two years in a row," Edwards...

Finally! A game we Broncos fans can be proud of! The Broncos played the best game of their season with a 49-29 victory at Invesco Field last Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. With three touchdowns in the first quarter, it was clear the bye week was much needed to revamp, rest up and come out swinging. The boys showed up to work; Kyle Orton was never tackled and the Broncos gained a season-high 153 yards on the ground. Changes were made on the defensive line, and it clearly helped clinch the win.
Sione Pouha realizes he's no Kris Jenkins. So does Mike DeVito. Together, though, they figure they can help offset the loss of the big man in the middle of the New York Jets' defensive line. Again. "This is like deja vu," defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said. That's because it's the second straight year Jenkins has been sidelined by a season-ending knee injury, catapulting...
The New York Jets have placed backup defensive end Ropati Pitoitua on injured reserve, ending his season, with a torn left Achilles' tendon. Pitoitua, in his third season with the Jets, was injured during the first half of New York's 9-3 preseason victory at Carolina on Saturday night. The former Washington State star was expected to fill in at various spots on the defensive line.
