Veteran Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson said Thursday that while he would like to keep playing beyond the 2011 season, he isn't sure if that will happen. The Jets must beat the Dolphins and get help from several other teams to get into the post-season. Tomlinson is in the final season of a two-year deal with the Jets.

"I'm just going to wait and see what happens," Tomlinson said when asked about his plans. "I'm not under contract, and I'll be a free agent, so obviously, I'm going to wait and see what happens. I would like to keep playing."

He added, "You never know how things shake out. For me, it just depends on the situation. ... I'd love to keep playing, but if the situation is not right then, I won't.

This could be the end for LaDainian Tomlinson. The Jets running back is a free agent after this season, and he acknowledged that the regular-season finale Sunday at Miami could be the last game of his career if New York does not make the playoffs. "There's definitely the thought that this possibly could be because you never know how things shake out," Tomlinson said Thursday.

Tomlinson, set to become a free agent, says Thursday that he will "wait and see" before deciding on whether to continue playing beyond this season, adding that he'll retire if the situation isn't right.
This was the New York Jets team Rex Ryan had promised all season. The offense jumped out to a quick start and kept going. The defense smothered the Kansas City Chiefs and was downright stubborn. "All the way around," running back LaDainian Tomlinson said, "this was probably our best team effort." No doubt about it.
Shonn Greene had no idea what was wrong. He just knew this wasn't what he expected. The yards were tough to come by for the New York Jets' starting running back earlier this season as the entire offense got off to a sluggish start. But this was his big chance after sitting behind Thomas Jones and then LaDainian Tomlinson his first two years.
